Facility Startup

Gattefosse, a new pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturing facility in Lufkin, TX, scheduled to open in 2024, underwent various startup and programming tasks. These included water-softener startups and programming, PID loop checks for the DA tank and boiler, combustion and safety checks, and a boil-out procedure for the pressure vessel. Additionally, the facility put online four pump skids, each with two pumps, and conducted startup procedures for the hot-water brine tank and cold-water brine tank system, making appropriate control programming changes. Boiler pre-startups and checks, along with collaboration with on-site engineers to rectify condensate system drawing errors, were also part of the tasks performed.

70% Recommissioning

NASA's utility plant boasts a fully-metered and cross-limited PLC-controlled high-pressure, superheated steam system featuring two O-shaped water tube boilers and two Co-Generation units. Previous work encompassed zero verification and loop checks spanning from instruments to PLCs and back to instrument signals. Additionally, tasks included assessing dampener strokes, dampener response, and loop checks directly from the PLC. Verification procedures covered critical aspects such as windbox and stack draft, O2 percentage, and pressure readings pre- and post-economizer for the furnace, windbox, and stack. Emissions output checks were conducted meticulously on both fuel-oil and natural gas, ensuring alignment with steam flow data-plates. Routine internal inspections focused on burner, windbox, boiler seals, mud drum, steam drum, superheated tubes, regular-generating tubes, and refractory components, including throat liners. Safety checks were rigorously performed with thorough verification of flow. Additionally, inspections of electrical cabinets and wiring were carried out to ensure optimal functionality and safety standards.
